More Flexible Working. The People Have Spoken....
The Equal Opportunity Commission (EOC) has published a report that suggests that half of the working population want to work more flexibly (52% of men and 48% of women).
The EOC report entitled, "Working outside the box", reveals that 6.5 million people in Britain could be using their skills more fully if more flexible working was available. It also explains thats there is a risk that rigid working practices are driving highly qualified workers into jobs below their skill level in order that they can achieve a work – life balance.
The EOC want to see a fresh approach, and would like to see more employers opening up a conversation with their staff about how they would like to work as well as telling them about what is currently on offer, and training their managers in delivering it.
The Recruitment And Employment Confederation's (REC) director of external relations,Tom Hadley says: “Evidence suggests that a large number of employers are recognising the business benefits of flexible working which is a positive step forward.
“However, it is important to understand the challenge that providing this kind of flexibility creates for smaller employers."
