Ikea Flat Pack Homes

We all know what it is like when you get home from a trip to Ikea with your brand new set of drawers. You are filled with a whole set of contrasting emotions, the idea of doing a bit of DIY that you know you can complete if you don't start off without looking at the instructions, followed by the dread as you can't find the missing screw.

Well Ikea has taken the DIY kit to a whole new level.

According to Building Design, Gateshead Council has just approved an Ikea development The Boklok development at St James Village, which won planning last week, will comprise 36 identical Scandinavian timber-framed flats and 177 houses, designed by construction firm Skanska.

Whilst there has been some opposition to Flat Pack Close, local Councillors have embraced the scheme as it challenges the way low cost housing can be built. Units will start from £70,000.

It is not clear from the information to date whether an Allen key will be included.
