Gardens a priority for most homebuyers

According to estate agents Savills ,nearly three quarters of Britons buying a property cite a garden as a major factor in their decision whether or not to buy a home.A recent survey conducted by the firm found that around 70 per cent of people classed a garden as an important aspect of home ownership.

Unsurprisingly, large gardens are a big hit with buyers ,however owners of small gardens need not despair - small-but-perfectly-formed plots can still attract interest from buyers, especially singles and first-time buyers (FTBs), Savills insisted.

Lucian Cook, a director in Savills' research department, said: "We looked at about 450 occupiers across England and Wales We asked them to rank the attributes of their home or potential home, and about 70 per cent of respondents considered their garden as either 'important' or 'very important' in the context of home ownership.
