Construction Of New Hotels At All Time High

Investment in the UK hotel industry hit £3 billion in the past year, according to the latest survey from the British Hospitality Association.

The Survey, "British Hospitality: Trends and Statistics 2007", shows that over 140 new hotels, more than 90 in the budget category, have opened in the UK in the 12 months ending August 2007.It also reveals that these new hotels represent 13,000 new rooms compared with 11,000 new rooms in the previous year. These are the highest ever recorded figures.

The BHA forecasts that a similar pace of construction will continue in the years leading up to the 2012 Olympics, with a further 113 new properties are already planned across the country for 2008 .

The report also estimates the UK tourism, hospitality and leisure industry to be worth more than £106 billion which is£20 billion more than official estimates. BHA chief executive Bob Cotton said: "According to our estimates the industry has already reached its £100 billion target, set by the Government for 2012."
