Trades Demand

Reports by the Federation of Masters Builders suggest that nearly 48% of small contractors struggle to find new staff.

The further north you go the more difficult it is to recruit staff, especially carpenters.

The FMB consider that the lack of resources for the industry is as a result of the government failing to promote apprenticeship schemes. The number of people entering apprenticeship schemes is well below government targets.

The figures are a bit one sided as they do not consider the increase in work available especially in the South East in the lead up to 2012.
