Doon Street Criticised

Yet another impressive Skyscraper is planned fro the capital. This time proposals for a tower are not in the city, but further down the Thames on the South Bank.

The 48 storey building designed by architects Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands includes an indoor swimming and leisure centre, 355 flats, a new headquarters for the Rambert Dance Company, public open space and shopping.

Like all good architects they have explained their design in ways that the mere mortal can not comprehend, the developer CSCB says that 'the scheme is conceived as a terrace of different buildings each expressing its function and yet forming an overall composition on the street.'

The proposal has been heavily criticised by English Heritage as it will damage some of the capitals more important views.

The Public Enquiry is due to consider the proposal in the coming days
