SNP Pledge £25 Million to Social Housing

HUNDREDS of new council houses will be built across Scotland under multi-million– pound government plans being announced.Nicola Sturgeon, the Deputy First Minister, unveiled the initiatives at the SNP's spring conference in Edinburgh, the first since the Nationalists' election victory last May.

She told a packed conference hall in Edinburgh that the Scottish Government's goal to build 35,000 new houses every year by 2015 would need "all hands on deck" to be met.

Sturgeon last year backed an end to the "right to buy" for new council tenants, which is a measure she believes necessary to boost social housing. She told delegates: "There's little point investing in new council houses just for them to be sold off under the right to buy."So let me confirm our government will introduce legislation to end the right to buy for new social build houses."
