£10milion To Build Extra Bedroom

Existing House

New Design

An unamed Russian tycoon is spending £10million to demolish a five-bedroom mansion, to replace it with a six-bedroom building. The businessman spent nearly £5million on the six-year-old luxury home – which has a private helicopter pad – but is knocking it down because it does not 'suit his aspirations'.

Estate agent Robert Dunford described the existing property as 'heavenly inside' but added: 'At that end of the market, it comes down to a matter of choice.' The house, on the Sandbanks peninsula in Poole Harbour, Dorset sits on one of the best plots and is believed to be a record for the most money paid for a plot of land on Sandbanks..

Jon Hooker, who lives next door, described the prospect of yet more building works as a 'complete nightmare'. He said he took a 'dim view of these modern, glass-fronted, stainless steel homes' and added: 'You wouldn't expect a perfectly good property to be pulled down five years after being built.'

As for the owner, his vast outlay on his new home will bring four bathrooms, a lavish master bedroom with a huge sun terrace and six bedrooms - just one more than the old house.
