Massive Currys and PC World Store Revamp

DSG International, owner of Currys and PC World, has unveiled plans for up to 50 megastores as part of an ongoing revamp of its UK business. They will base the new stores on their 55,000 sq.ft Currys megastore in Birmingham, which has grown average weekly profits by more than 50% since October and is on course for annual sales of up to £35 million.

The company said there were plenty of opportunities within the existing Currys and PC World estate for "between 20 to 50 such superstores across the UK".

The transformation work by DSG has seen the company overhaul 60 UK outlets. To date, 13 Currys superstores, four Currys.digital stores, 41 PC World superstores, the new Currys megastore and one trial store combining Currys and PC World have been reformatted with an improved layout and wider range of products.

The revamps have delivered average gross profit uplifts of 15% to 50%, DSG said.
Chief executive John Browett said the company was on track with plans to reformat another 90 to 120 stores in the UK and Nordic region over the next 12 months.

DSG plans capital expenditure of between £140 million and £155 million in 2009/10, rising to between £155 million and £165 million over 2010/11.
