Morgan Sindall wins £38million sports project
Construction group Morgan Sindall has won a contract to build Basildon Sporting Village, a leisure complex. The £38million contract is a public/private partnership (PPP) project for Basildon County Council.
The project is being led Community Solutions for Leisure, a subsidiary of Morgan Sindall's Investments division while the construction work is being carried out by Morgan Ashurst, Morgan Sindall's Construction division, with Morgan Professional Services, the design and engineering specialists carrying out the civil and structural engineering, mechanical and electrical design.
The facilities will be built in Glucester Park in Basildon, Essex, and could be used as a training camp in the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games. Facilities will include a 50-metre, eight-lane swimming pool with a viewing area for 450 people; an eight-court multi-purpose sports hall with retractable seating for 480 people; a fully-equipped gymnastics centre; a multi-purpose studio; a 100-workstation health and fitness suite and a climbing wall. Work is due to start in October 2009 with a scheduled completion date of Spring 2011.
