Balfour Beatty secures £134m education contracts

Balfour Beatty, the international engineering, construction, investment and services Group, announced today that it has been awarded two education sector contracts totalling £134 million.

Balfour Beatty has been awarded the £77 million contract to build new student accommodation at the University of Exeter, in partnership with University Partnerships Programme Limited (UPP), as part of the University’s £400 million capital programme. Located at the University’s Streatham campus, the project is scheduled for completion in late 2012.

This is the third project which Balfour Beatty has been awarded by UPP. The previous projects were for the development of student accommodation, academic buildings and facilities for the University of Plymouth and the University of Kent.

Lincolnshire County Council, as part of the National Academies Framework, has appointed Balfour Beatty for three design and build contracts totalling £57 million. These are The Priory Witham Academy, The Priory City of Lincoln Academy and The Priory Academy LSST. The fast-track nature of this project means that the first phase of The Priory Witham Academy will be handed over and ready for occupation in September 2010.

Commenting on the awards, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said
"We are delighted to have been selected to build new accommodation for students in Exeter and provide state-of-the-art academies in Lincolnshire, adding to our extensive work in the education sector."
