Balfour Beatty awarded £65 million estate regeneration project in Kensington

Balfour Beatty, the international infrastructure group, announces today that Mansell, the UK construction services business, has been awarded a £65 million design and build contract to redevelop Wornington Green Estate, London, for Kensington Housing Trust.

Mansell will build 324 high-quality homes and provide improved facilities and open space as part of the overall Wornington Green regeneration scheme. Fifty five percent of the homes will be for affordable allocation and forty five percent for open market sale. Construction work will begin in Autumn 2010 with completion in 2014.

Commenting today, Balfour Beatty Chief Executive, Ian Tyler, said;

“We are delighted to have been awarded this project and look forward to working with the Kensington Housing Trust in partnership with local stakeholders to enhance the Wornington Green area for the community.”

Kensington Housing Trust is part of the Catalyst Housing Group, with whom Mansell has worked for over seven years.

The overall Wornington Green regeneration scheme, which is estimated to be worth over £250 million, will provide up to 1,000 homes and additional commercial space and will
further integrate Wornington Green into the North Kensington neighbourhood. Work on the further phases of the scheme will be awarded later in the year.
