Al Futtaim Carillion has been awarded two contracts in Abu Dhabi worth around £110 million, bringing the total value of new contracts won by Al Futtaim Carillion in Abu Dhabi over the last two weeks to some £680 million.

Mubadala Infrastructure, a business unit of Mubadala Development Company PJSC (Mubadala), has appointed Al Futtaim Carillion to deliver Stage 3 of the new UAE University project, which is being built in the city of Al Ain, worth in the region of £80 million. Stage 3 of the project will include academic buildings, recreational facilities and residential accommodation to provide first-class facilities for undergraduate students and university staff. The Stage 3 works also includes the phased demolition of existing buildings, which will help the UAE University to consolidate all its facilities onto a single site. Construction work will start in May 2010 and is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2011.

Al Futtaim Carillion has also been awarded a £30 million contract by ALDAR to build a new retail outlet for IKEA on Yas Island, on which construction will be completed by the end of the year.

Commenting, Carillion chief executive, John McDonough, said: “We are delighted that Al Futtaim Carillion has been selected for these projects, which follow hard on the heels of its success in being awarded a £570 million contract to build the New York University project in Abu Dhabi.

“The new UAE University is one of Abu Dhabi’s most prestigious developments and we look forward to working in partnership with Mubadala to deliver a campus that will provide outstanding learning, living and leisure facilities for students. The new IKEA development, which will be one of the largest IKEA stores in the world, is also another significant win that further reinforces the strong market position we have established in Abu Dhabi.”
