Dubai Construction Goes Green

Dubai developers must comply with 'green' building standards starting January under a new mandate issued on Wednesday to drive eco-friendly development across the emirate.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also vice president and prime minister of the UAE, issued the directive in a bid to demonstrate Dubai’s commitment to tackling climate change.

In a statement released on Wednesday Mohammed Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Executive Office in Dubai, said“This decision will position Dubai as the first city in the Middle East and among few cities in the world to adopt the green building strategy....Sheikh Mohammed's decision to introduce innovative strategies underscores Dubai's support of international efforts to address global environmental challenges,” .
