KISS this
Keep it simple stupid.... the golden rule of negotiation.
The Daily Telegraph tells us the art of being an expert negotiator, following in the footsteps of some of the greats, including former US President, Bill Clinton. Or so you thought. Mr Clinton's failure to convince the US public on the merits of he US health reforms was partly due to the oversupply of invigoration, failing to abide by his Golden KISS.
His failings forms an integral part of the teachings of the Oxford programme at the Said Business School.Business leaders regularly attend the course pitting the wits and comparing themselves on an academic level against their piers.
Negotiation should not be all about winners or losers according to Professor Leonard Greenlagh. It is all about two parties coming able to reconcile their differences.
The golden rules:
Identify what you want, judge what the other side will want.
Build up intelligence and knowledge of the other side, including their negotiating constraints.
The final stage is the closure
Finally, always remember,
With great power comes great responsibility
