Caroline Flint Becomes New Housing Minister
Following Peter Hain’s ,the Work and Pensions Secretary , resignation yesterday Gordon Brown has been forced to reshuffle the cabinet .
James Purnell will take over as work and pensions secretary following his resignation whilst
Caroline Flint is will move from the department of work and pensions to replace Yvette Cooper as housing minister, who intern is moving to the treasury.Flint, The MP for Yorkshire and the Humber, is married with three children and was moved to the department of work and pensions by Gordon Brown in his first round of government appointments after taking office last summer.Before entering parliament, Flint had various jobs, including five years as political officer and researcher for the GMB union.
Hain quit his job within minutes of the Electoral Commission announcing it had reported his late declaration of £103,000 of donations to the police. The commission said: “Following discussions with the Metropolitan Police Service and the Crown Prosecution Service, the Electoral Commission has now referred matters to the Metropolitan Police for them to consider whether an investigation should commence.”
Hain then reacted by saying: “In view of the Electoral Commission decision today, I will be resigning to clear my name and I will be making a statement shortly.”
