Green Kens Latest Stance

We have mentioned previously on these pages how difficult it is for London Developers to provide renewable energy on new projects. Well matters are going to get a little bit more tricky.

The Mayor Of London announced that all new buildings will have to invest in or link to decentralised power – electricity provided locally to the building.

In addition 20% of energy not coming from a decentralised source will have to be provided through on-site sources like wind turbines.

If you can imagine the tight sites found in London, and then consider the renewable energy available, such as:

  • Solar Panels -too small an area visible to the sun

  • Wind Turbines -overshadowed by other buildings

  • Biomass Boilers - poisonous fumes

  • Ground Source Heat Pumps - not always possible

And now you start getting a truer picture of how tricky it will be to provide 20% renewable, but conversely what a potentially good option decentralised power will be.

We have an open mind, whilst developers must maintain an open wallet..
