Plans to Cut House Sharing

The Government is considering giving Local Councils the power of restricting the number of houses in multiple occupation (HMO's) within their areas according to reports.


The intention behind the proposal is to address concerns that certain areas become over populated with HMO's and have a negative impact on a neighbourhood. In University towns where students congregate it is not uncommon for supporting businesses to suffer during the summer holidays.

A stern letter has been issued to the Government on behalf of the National Union for Students (NUS), British Property Federation, Federation of Small Businesses, National Landlord Association, Residential Landlords Association, suggesting that the proposal by the Government is a waste of time...
