Housing State

The Housing Audit prepared by CABE reveals the poor state of Housing being built in the UK today.

An analysis of 293 mid market housing schemes from around the country discovered as many as '29pc of developments being so poor that they should not have even got planning permission'.

Badly designed housing developments, lacking in play areas, windows opening onto blank walls, dimly lit areas and large expanse of tarmac were evident.

The Planning Minister, Yvette Cooper, has affirmed that there is a responsibility on House builders as well as Local Authorities to provide high quality developments. Poorly designed neighbourhoods are simply not acceptable.

Well designed homes and neighbourhoods lead to a much greater level of satisfaction and are less likely to lead to social and economic unrest.
